The Valspar Championship was first played in 2000 as the Tampa Bay Classic and it has had various sponsors and names over the years including the Chrysler Championship and the Transitions Championship.
The tournament has been sponsored by Valspar Corporation (a paint and coatings company) since 2014.
The Valspar Championship is a four-round stroke play event, with a field of 144 players. The purse for the 2022 tournament is $6.9 million, with the winner receiving a prize of $1.242 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.
Notable past winners of the Valspar Championship include Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, K.J. Choi, Luke Donald, and Paul Casey.
In 2019, Paul Casey won the tournament for the second time, shooting a final-round 72 to finish one shot ahead of Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Kokrak.
In addition to the professional tournament, the Valspar Championship also includes various events and activities for fans, such as a Family Fun Zone, a Valspar Live concert series, and a food and wine festival.
The tournament also has a charitable component, with proceeds going to support local organizations that focus on youth education and development.
